Back to school, rough quarter. Math, Physics, and microcontrollers focusing in machine language.
I hate online courses, but there is something to be said for no school on Fridays and working from your couch.
Well, it was fun hanging out with folks I don't get to see, and folks I do get to see. The holidays were fun but I am glad to be back in the city and doing things, I was getting stir crazy.
I leave you with this.

| Where do you leave your kid while you work? |
[Jan. 6th, 2010|11:18 pm] |
Dearest Seattle-
I am moving shortly, and unfortunately have to change my son's daycare.
He's currently in a full day Headstart class, which I'd really like to continue with, but that doesn't seem to be an option after I move. He's not really "special needs", but does kind of need some extra attention. He has a speech delay, and as a result his social skills are a little behind others of his age. Headstart has been AMAZING for him, so that or something similar would really be ideal. I'll settle for an in-home daycare if I have to, but would strongly prefer something more like a preschool. Also need some place that takes state child care subsidy payments.
I'm moving from White Center to Lakecity/Shoreline, and work in Ballard. I work Mon-Fri 8a-5p. He's almost 4.
I checked the memories back to '06, and this isn't really the sort of thing you Google.
Thanks! |

| Scraps for art projects |
[Jan. 6th, 2010|07:33 pm] |
Where is the best place to get free/cheap scraps of materials such as wires, tech-y things, colorful objects, cloth, textures, etc.? This will be glued to paper, so I need small scraps, or things that can be destroyed further to make smaller, somewhat glue-able things. The more interesting textures the better, but anything goes. thanks. |

The student athletes on the Seattle U swim team are offering private lessons to anyone who wants to learn to swim or improve their existing swimming skills.
Each class costs $20 for up to three people, and all proceeds benefit the swim team's travel and training budget. Coach Kat Cuevas tells me they've taught people from ages 14 months up to middle age.
Classes are held Mondays and Wednesdays between 3:30 and 5:30pm at Seattle U's Connolly Center at 14th & Cherry. To sign up or get more info, contact Kat Cuevas at cuevask@seattleu.edu |

| | De/Vision- The End | ] | Tom Shear is kicking off A23's Compass tour on March 29th at El Corazon. None of my friends are going, so I was wondering if anyone else was planning to go and see it. And whether or not you wanna go together.
I know it's a bit early but can never be too early. ;) |

| Need to find a beautifully decorated church... |
[Jan. 6th, 2010|05:12 pm] |
I am working on a photography project for a class and need recommendations for churches that are magnificent (in or out)... I'm thinking massive stained glass windows, elaborate worship areas, paintings, statues, etc. Does not have to be a Christian church... any place of worship.
Thanks in advance. |

| Teriyaki! |
[Jan. 6th, 2010|01:07 pm] |
Just in case anyone missed it, there was an article in yesterday's New York Times about Seattle's own food - Teriyaki.
Bonus points to the journalist for not giving in to tired coffee comparisons. |

| Favorite Seattle Bakery |
[Jan. 6th, 2010|11:40 am] |
What's your favorite bakery in Seattle? Alternately, are there any that specialize in Polynesian sweet breads?
I'm a Pastry student at the New England Culinary Institute looking to do an internship in my home city, is the root of what I'm getting to. |

Hey y'all.
I have a 2002 Jetta wagon that isn't in drivable condition. Do any of you wonderful snarkers have any tips or experience junking/scrapping a car for money?
Does this exist? Am I crazy? I just don't have the time or money to fix 'er up. (Cosmetic damage)
If you do, by all means, halp.
If you don't, by all means: snark.
Thanks! |

| Medical Cost Website |
[Jan. 3rd, 2010|11:56 am] |
I came across this website and thought I would share it.
http://www.pricedoc.com/
You can search for medical care (medical, vision, dental, etc) in your area and it looks like they all have the prices listed. I know people have asked about cheap area medical clinics, hopefully this will help for future reference. |

| Short-term social events |
[Jan. 2nd, 2010|01:54 pm] |
Hi Seattle,
So I've checked out the social and community tags, and I don't think Google is likely to be any help here, so here goes. I'm a college student going "home" to the Bellevue area for the next two weeks. My parents moved there after I went to college, so I don't know anyone, and for the last three breaks have mostly stayed in and hung out with the family. This year, though, I want to go out and meet people. Do you guys have any suggestions for a lonely college student who wants to break out of the box? I've filled out apps for EarthCorps and NWHarvest (which I did find via Memories) but I'm open to anything really -- bars, concerts, hunting for aliens with seaweed and manure...
Thanks a bunch and happy snarking. |

New Years Eve. I donned my shiney purple mini skirt and my glittered helmet and tried to make the best of the night. Worked, got off at 9, wished I had been in Portland instead. Went to a very small party, drank lots of patron and pabst (an unlikely mix). Shot off sparklers at midnight, shared a small kiss.
We sang lots of kareoke, and it was an amazing mix of stuff. Tom Petty, B-52s, "Shiney Happy People Holding Hands", George Michael, and a bunch of other shit I didn't realize I knew by heart and loved to sing outloud.
Got too drunk, walked home. Woke up the next morning, went to the 4th Ave Tav with my friends for breakfast because we're classy like that.
On the way there I found my favorite favorite hat that I've worn constantly for the past three years at least. It had been missing for two weeks. I found it on a tree stump by the library. What?
"Glitter on the mattress Glitter on the highway Glitter on the front porch Glitter on the hallway"
The longer I live, the more I realize I should be a B-52 when I grow up.
I am not in a good place lately. |
